Trauma-informed care (TIC).

Trauma-informed care (TIC) is a framework for helping people who have experienced trauma or negative consequences from dangerous events. It's based on the understanding that trauma can affect people's lives, their needs, and how they use services.

TIC involves: Recognizing trauma: Being able to identify when someone may be affected by trauma.
Adjusting work: Collaboratively adjusting how work is done to take trauma into account.
Supporting recovery: Responding in a way that supports recovery, does no harm, and recognizes people's resilience.

Involving patients: Giving patients a voice in their treatment planning and an active role in decision-making.
Building on strengths: Building on clients' strengths and resilience in the context of their environments and communities.
Preventing retraumatization: Avoiding treatment practices that retraumatize people with histories of trauma.

TIC can be used in clinical and mental health care settings, workplaces, educational institutions, and other organizations. Policy Intervention: Nigerian Mental Health Policy emphasizes protecting human rights, including the right to live free from violence and discrimination.
